13th February 2016

Scheduled work is currently underway on the Coastal road between Southport & Ainsdale. Motorists can expect short delays as temperory traffic lights will be in operation next week.

Cllr David Barton said: “I am delighted on behalf of local residents and commuters who use this everyday route into Southport that together me and my Conservative colleagues have been able to achieve these much-needed restorative works on behalf of our local community. I should also like to thank the relevant departments who have taken forward and acted upon our requests to improve the popular gateway to town.

“I look forward to a safer and more presentable Coastal Road back in full working order in the near future as part of our efforts to maintain Southport’s status as the classic resort of England.”

The Coastal Road is now scheduled to temporarily be closed from Pinfold Lane, up to Weld Road from March 6. The road is set to be closed for approximately one week depending on prevailing weather conditions.

The council has also agreed to repaint the lines on the stretch of road.

Overhanging bushes will be cut back and along with the vegetation growing along either side of the Coastal Road.
