Result: Southport 2-2 Grimsby
Southport’s Conference survival fight will go to the final day as promotion-chasing Grimsby secured a late draw.
The hosts were heading for safety after second-half goals from Louis Almond and Luke Foster followed Jordan Chapell’s opener for Grimsby.
But Shaun Pearson headed a late equaliser for the visitors, who will be in the play-offs.
Southport are three points ahead of the drop zone with one game left and a vastly superior goal difference.
A point at Welling next Saturday would ensure survival – and even if Paul Carden’s side lost, Alfreton would still need an eight-goal swing to stand any chance of catching them.
Chapell broke the deadlock for Grimsby with a low finish from 12 yards after a bright start from the visitors.
Midfielder Scott Brown played the ball across the penalty area from the left and Chapell steered in a low finish from 12 yards.
But striker Almond levelled out of nothing with an angled 25-yard shot into the bottom corner and defender Foster crashed home a right-footed volley from inside the penalty area.
But Pearson headed home a cross in the 84th minute, meaning Southport are not quite safe.
