Southport still not safe with another defeat at home against Braintree Town
Southport missed out on the chance to virtually guarantee their Conference survival after two second-half Braintree Town goals.
Braintree took the lead after the restart when Iron striker Jordan Cox bundled home Bernard Mensah’s cross.
Southport could have found an equaliser in the closing stages but Connor McCarthy planted his header just wide.
The Iron wrapped the win up when Chez Isaac fired the ball home to leave Southport three points from safety.
The Sandgrounders, with a superior goal difference, could have moved six points clear of the bottom four with two games to play had they won.
