Southport restaurant boss hosts vegan bonanza to promote healthy living.
A Southport restaurant will for one night only banish the beef and make the meat vanish of its menu as it prepares to host a special charity vegan night.
Members of the Crazi-Carrott Club, hosted by Alwynne Cartmell, regularly meet in various restaurants across Merseyside and on June 7 will descend on Twelve Restaurant on Princes Street.
The gluten-free vegan tasting session, which is open to all, is designed to raise money for Freshfields Animal Rescue.
Twelve owner Paulo Teixeria said he couldn’t wait to host the unusual evening of meat-free delectations.
He said: “There are only few days to go and we still have some places left for the Freshfields and Crazi Carrotts Dinner.
“For a £10 deposit you can enjoy a wonderful vegan, gluten-free meal along with a quiz and raffle – all for a good cause!
“Formal dress is optional and we cannot wait to welcome everyone down for what is promised to be a fantastic night.”
Alwynne told our reporter: “The group supports restaurants and cafes in the area who would like to add more plant based meals on their menu.
“Crazi-Carrots is concerned about climate change and the effects of animal farming on global warming and the detrimental effects on people’s lives – for example the recent flooding in many parts of the country.
“Most people are unaware that factory farming is the highest contributor to climate change. More than our transport system. Crazi-carrot is run by trained volunteer school speakers who deliver talks to pupils from reception class to college.
“We are people who are concerned about the rights of animals to live free of cruelty and exploitation and the rights of people to live in a healthy environment.”
