Special wristbands are being sold to raise money to boost a Southport family’s appeal to send their youngster to the States for specialist treatment.
Isla Rose Settle, from Southport, is one of only 40 children in England and 500 children worldwide with the rare genetic condition Non-Ketotic Hyperglycinemia (NKH). It is caused by an excess of glycine on the brain which affects development. Symptoms include frequent seizures, immobility, and ‘global developmental delay.’
Isla’s parents Sarah Steel, 33, and Michael Settle, 32, from Churchtown, are on their way to reaching the £5,000 mark in their fundraising appeal.
Her mum Sarah said: “We are selling pink and yellow bands with ‘NKH Awareness and Isla Rose written on them for £2 a band.
