Residents fear that wind turbines will snap off and kill someone
High winds are causing so much havoc in Southport today that there are fears wind turbines may snap off and cause injury or death.
Turbines along Foul Lane are operating well above capacity as winds as strong as 70mph batter the town.
There are now fears the turbines may not be able to cope with the speeds they are experiencing and could snap off at any time.
The area, although sparsely populated, is visited regularly by tradesmen. As yet the road remains open to traffic although the circumstances may change if the winds speed up.
