Resident blames bank for Anchor Street rubbish pile up

20th August 2020

Piles of ripped up rubbish and decaying food have been dumped outside a popular town centre cafe.

The rubbish which has been ripped up and torn across the road by hungry rats and seagulls has left Anchor Street in a state, putting people off visiting the nearby cafe and sandwich shop, say furious residents.

One trader claimed the rubbish has been thrown out by staff at nearby Lloyds bank.

They said “The rubbish is being left out by Lloyds Bank on London Street.

“The rubbish is then strewn all along Anchor St in front of other businesses including a cafe, pub and restaurant.

“They could leave it outside their own door but instead choose to leave it on Anchor Street.

“This rubbish includes food, hand towels, toilet tissue, wipes etc and with the current Covid situation is only making the matter worse. This rubbish is often left for days so gets
everywhere as within minutes of it being left, it’s ripped open by seagulls.”
