Ex Footballer turned TV star Jamie Redknapp has paid tribute to a Southport man who is desperate to return home from 24 hour care.
Michael Walton, who suffered complications from a brain tumour, has become a star across the North West after his family set up a viral campaign to help bring him home from 24 hour care.
As well as raising over £12,000 so far for specialist equipment to help Michael communicate with his family and friends once more, the campaign has caught the eye of a number of high profile celebrities. Most recently former Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp.
In a touching video message posted to Michael’s Journey Home Instagram page, the ex Anfield star turned TV regular said “Hi Michael, I heard you’re a big Liverpool fan so how could I refuse saying hello!?
“I hope you’re doing ok and enjoying the team’s good start to the season. I have heard you are an incredible man and incredible fighter.”
Michael was left severely disabled by a rare type of tumour on his brain which has seen the ex Uni lecturer spend over 500 days in intensive care.
Now his family have launched an emotional Instagram account called Michael’s Journey To Home chronicling the gruelling and difficult transformation of a Southport home to be ready in time for Michael to move into, helping him begin the journey to regaining independence.
