The rate of recorded new coronavirus cases in Southport has sunk to its lowest point in 12 months.
50 to 60 patients a week are now being diagnosed with Covid-19 in the Southport area.
However, the figures must be treated with caution due to the end of free testing.
Similar figures were last seen in June 2021, when Britain was exiting the third national lockdown. In the first week of January 2022, the local “new cases in 7 days” rate surpassed 2,000 for the first and only time.
Between 23 May 2022 and 29 May 2022, 18 people went into hospital with coronavirus.
There were 28 patients in hospital with coronavirus on 31 May 2022.
There were 0 coronavirus patients in hospital beds with a mechanical ventilator on 31 May 2022.
But the ZOE covid study believes there may be as many as 3,000 undiagnosed cases of coronavirus in Southport.
While government and NHS trust figures detail the exact number of recorded cases, the ONS publishes figures based on a sample of 200,000 who take a test every month, regardless of whether they show symptoms.
ONS figures show that the virus continues to subside, but not as quickly as the official government rate suggests. While specific data for Southport is unavailable from the ONS – they say that 1 in 75 people within the Liverpool and Sefton area have coronavirus
Coronavirus vaccines, including first and second doses, third doses, booster doses, are still available to children and adults in the area.
