A Prospect for Dukes Ward

27th August 2019

Southport Conservatives are pleased to announce that Michael Prendergast has been selected as the prospective candidate for Dukes Ward at the forthcoming local elections in May 2020.

Michael is a resident of Dukes Ward and lives there with his wife and two children. He is a solicitor and Notary Public and has been qualified since June 2009. He is an active charity supporter having ran the London Marathon twice to raise funds for Mencap and Whizz Kidz and he has also ran the Great North Run to support the the National Autistic Society. More recently he ran the Liverpool half marathon to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

His legal knowledge and experience of running a small business gives him the experience needed to help local residents with a range of issues and to stand up for the residents of Dukes Ward and Southport.

Michael is keen to see inward investment into Southport, both from the public and private sector, and wants to see the town given greater priority in terms of the allocation of resources and investment from Sefton Council.

His main priorities for Dukes Ward and Southport in general are:

• To push Sefton Council to improve the condition of many of the roads and pavements throughout the ward, including potholes being filled in, improved litter collecting and the removal of weeds from many of our pavements and gutters.

• To reduce car parking charges in order to encourage more visitors and increase commerce in the town centre.

• To speak up for Southport and ensure a fair distribution of funds from Sefton Council.

• To hold those in charge at Sefton Council to account for some of the poor decisions that have been taken and the lack of management in key areas of the council.

Michael says, ‘I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to hopefully represent my hometown. I want to help residents with the issues that matter to them and give them a greater voice in the Council. I will work hard to win over as many people as possible and would encourage those who don’t normally vote to do so at the local elections.’
