Kind hearted owner Kate Chesterton agreed to exchange all the school’s tokens for copies of books to ensure each pupil got one to take home.

Students from year six went to collect them dressed as their favourite story characters and got chance to spend time reading in the iconic shop.

Deputy Headteacher at the school Linda Thompson said: “We were absolutely made up when Kate said she would swap all of our World Book Day tokens for copies to give to our pupils.

“Reading is so important at St John’s and we want to inspire all of our children to develop a love of books and being able to give every one of them a book to take home is amazing.”
