Following the draw away at Darlington at the weekend, Southport will be looking to build on that solid result as they travel to Stockport County on Tuesday night.
After an impressive win against Chorley two games ago, Liam Watson’s side showed their resilience on the road to return from the North East with a hard-earned point.
That draw keeps the Port exactly where they were at the start of play, sat in 13th place and still seven points off the play-offs.
Meanwhile, midweek opponents, Stockport, sit firmly in the play-off places and only three points behind league leaders Chorley.
County have well and truly put themselves in the picture for the title, with an unbeaten run in the league stretching back to November as teams around them have dropped points.
In 2019, the Hatters have won six of their seven league games, scoring 14 goals along the way.
That contributes to the 53 goals they’ve scored in total this campaign, making them the joint third highest scorers in the division.
Pivotal to that record is striker Matty Warburton, who has struck on 16 occasions so far. The forward was on target twice in County’s 3-2 win over Telford on Saturday.
Another man to watch, is Frank Mulhern, who has scored on nine occasions himself. His last was a double in a 4-2 FA Trophy win against higher-ranked opposition in Harrogate Town.
It is former Chesterfield midfielder, Connor Dimaio, who the Port will remember from the last meeting, as the 23-year-old;s strike was the difference in the reverse fixture at the Merseyrail Community Stadium.
Jim Gannon’s side finished fifth last season and they appear on course to do better this campaign
Edgeley Park has been a fortress all season, with only two league defeats, with the last being in September.
With that win against Chorley still fresh in Southport minds, a similar showing will be needed to beat the division’s in-form side as Stockport will aim to climb to the top.
