Having finally experienced some late joy last weekend Southport head into this weekend with renewed optimism.
After conceding late in their last two games, Nathan Lowe’s last gasp penalty rescued a point for Southport to leave them unbeaten under Kevin Davies, a run they will be looking to continue against the league’s bottom side, North Ferriby United.
The Villagers were relegated from the National League along with Southport last season and have struggled in their new surroundings, managing just one win all season.
Their squad includes former ‘Port captain Steve Brogan, a player who never quite found his feet at Haig Avenue but who will be keen to show his old club what they missed out on.
Whilst Southport have been improved since Davies took over, they are still without a win since the victory over Darlington at the start of September.
Two draws represent a welcome end to the run of losses that saw Alan Lewer lose his job, but there is no doubt that the home side will be viewing the visit of lowly opposition as a golden opportunity to register the new boss’ first win.
