Southport make the trip to the North East this weekend as they take on South Shields in the Buildbase FA Trophy.
After last week’s 1-0 victory over Gloucester City, Liam Watson’s side will be looking to continue their cup run.
In the last round, the Port were forced to come from behind to beat Colne 3-2, with David Morgan grabbing a late winner.
Meanwhile this week’s opponents, South Shields, overcame Stourbridge comfortably in a 4-0 victory in a replay, with former Port striker Jason Gilchrist scoring in both games.
Last time out in the league The Mariners drew 1-1 at home against Warrington in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
After finish second last year, they have continued where they have left off and currently sit at the top of the division with two games in hand.
With 11 wins in 17 games and only three defeats, South Shields have certainly been in excellent form this term as they push for promotion.
Southport may struggle to break down a stern defence that has only conceded 12 goals in the league.
After stumbling out at this stage of the FA Trophy last season, with a 1-0 defeat to Solihull Moors, Watson will be hoping his side can overcome lower league opposition and set up a good cup run heading into 2020.
