After a two-game league break, Southport are back in National League North action against in-form Brackley.

The victories against both Farsley Celtic and Holker Old Boys in the cups provided a much needed morale boost for Watson’s men as they stormed to two strong results.

Of course it was against lesser sides but getting in goal scoring form was vital.

Opponents Brackley Town also enjoyed cup success, but it took two attempts against fellow National League North opponents Nuneaton Borough, beating them 2-0 in the replay after an initial 1-1 draw.

The Saints have had a comfortable start to the league campaign, currently sitting in the playoff places.

Kevin Wilkin’s side are unbeaten in their last six league games, proving another tough side to beat.

Their last victory came in an home fixture against Hereford, with goals from Armson and Ndlovi helping them to their fourth victory of the season.

Meanwhile last time out in the league they played out a 1-1 draw with Curzon Ashton, with an 80th minute goal cancelling out Armson’s opener.

Armson has been important for the side so far this season, popping up with five goals so far this campaign.

In addition to this, striker Lee Ndlovu has also been crucial in the side with seven goals for him so far this campaign.

It has been important for the side to find more goal scoring outlets after the departure of Aaron Williams who got 22 goals last season, finishing third in the charts.

It was those goals that helped the Saints towards a third place finish last campaign, but were defeated by Harrogate in the playoff final. They also had the memorable experience of lifting the FA Trophy at Wembley Stadium in 2018, an occasion which they took a large following.

On their way to that league finish, they were successful twice over the Port last season, with 4-0 and 1-0 wins.

The Sandgrounders will be hoping there won’t be a repeat of either of those results when they meet tomorrow.
