Road repairmen who are using Portland Street to store their machines whilst they resurface Lord Street have angered traders.
Owners of businesses along Portland Street are now asking why they are still being “punished” for the roadworks and losing out on business when their closest stretch of Lord Street has already been fixed.
Contractors Dowhigh have used a small section of the road as a storage area and command centre with access to Portland Street reduced slightly, but enough traders say to almost kill off their business.
One shop owner said that drivers just don’t want to venture down the road anymore as they assume it’s entirely closed off, rather than still being able to get to it from King Street.
