Portland Street set for significant roadworks next week

Portland Street is set for three days of roadworks next week, with three separate operations due to be conducted along the street in three days.

The street will be closed near to the junction of Cemetery Road on Tuesday 16 November while United Utilities conduct maintenance on water mains.

Merseytravel have advised that Route 15A bus will travel from Birkdale as normal to Southport, then via Southbank Road, Town Lane then as normal route to Southport Hospital. Cemetery Road, Portland Street and Walnut Street will be omitted.

In the opposite direction, it will travel from Southport Hospital as normal to Southbank Road then via Ash Street, then as normal route to Birkdale (Clive Road), omitting Cedar Street, Portland Street and Cemetery Road.

Closer to the town centre, temporary traffic lights will be installed at the junction of Lineker Street as part of the same maintenance, with this work set to continue until Thurs 18 November.

The level crossing on Portland Street will also be briefly closed between midnight at 5:00am on Friday 19 November for renewal works.
