Southport Householders have been warned to be on their guard against callers who try to con their way into properties.
Police received two reports of residential burglaries in Bath Street North in Southport – both involving a female who called at the homes of two elderly women asking for money.
She distracted the occupiers and entered their homes – in the first incident by asking to use the toilet.
At the second property the female banged on the window,
and when the occupier opened the door the female barged her way in, taking the key from the inside of the door.
She then went upstairs before pushing past her victim in an attempt to leave the property but police had already been called.
The suspect was identified and arrested on suspicion of assault and burglary and later charged.
