Police urge public to ‘grass up’ turf thief

Police are launching an unusual manhunt for a turf thief.

The green fingered thief was caught on CCTV entering the yard of a house in the town centre after casing out the home to steal a large roll of fake turf.

The man who was caught on clear camera footage also made off with a handful of expensive tools.

The grass was set to be used as a decorative addition to the concrete yard and the owner is said to be distraught at the invasion of their private property.

One piece had already been laid and workmen were due back this weekend to finish the job but had left the expensive turf in plain sight leading to the unusual theft.
