Police sweep resort beach after concern for safety call

30th May 2020

Police and the coastguard have rushed to a busy Southport beach this afternoon after fears that a person has gone missing in the mudflats around Southport beach.

Officers from Merseyside Police and members of HM Coastguafd were called to Southport beach just after 2pm this afternoon after reports of a concern for safety.

Hundreds of people have ignored safety warnings today and even ventured out northwest of Southport Pier despite warnings of deep mud and quicksand.

OTS reported earlier that there are no lifeguards on Southport beach and there is a high risk of danger.
