Police step in to sort anti-social youths

21st September 2019

Over recent weeks we have received an increase in calls about large groups of young people, boys and girls, responsible for anti-social behaviour in the Churchtown and Crossens areas of Southport. The issues occur after school and over the weekends. Shops and businesses on Rufford Road have been affected, as have some in Churchtown itself.

Sadly, this behaviour has escalated beyond a bit of nuisance behaviour and we are now investigating three crimes; A public order offence, one of criminal damage and one of assault.

As a result of patrols over the last three nights, we have some names of people we have had reason to speak to. Investigations into the three crimes continue.

Parents, do you know where your children go in the evenings and at weekends? Do you know who their friends are? If you suspect your children may be part of one of these groups, now is the time to take action to distance them from those who may get them into trouble. The behaviour being reported is not acceptable. We will be giving more attention to the areas concerned and will take action as is appropriate.
