Police rush to scene of alleged town centre ‘stabbing’

An investigation is underway after a late night reveller was allegedly stabbed in a serious assault in the early hours of this morning.

Police closed off Waverley Street for a number of hours this morning after reports of a serious assault believed to involve a stabbing occurred around 5.30am.

Eye witnesses say an attacker used a blades instrument in the assault but this is currently unconfirmed by officials.

Revellers and nearby residents reported a number of emergency services rushing to the scene just off Lord Street shortly after 5.30am this morning.

The victim was rushed to Southport Hospital for medical treatment and their condition is currently unknown.

A statement from Merseyside Police is expected later today.

Any witnesses to the incident are asked to call 101 immediately.
