Detectives say they are treating the death of a man near Southport Pier this morning as unexplained.
Emergency services were called to the Marine Way Bridge this morning near to Genting Casino after a member of the public discovered a body.
The road was closed off and an investigation into the cause of death was immediately launched.
A spokesperson Merseyside Police said: “Emergency services attended following a report that a man’s body had been found at Southport Promenade this morning, Monday 24 October.
“At around 8.40am we received a report that a body of a man in his 30s was found on Southport Pier and was sadly pronounced deceased.
“The man’s death is currently being treated as unexplained and a report is being prepared for the Coroner’s Office.
“A scene is currently in place and road closures are in place at the roundabout of Marine Drive and Marine Parade while officers remain in the area.”
