Police are appealing for information following a report of an assault in Southport in the early hours of this morning, Friday 13 May.
At around 2am officers on patrol on Lord Street, saw a member of the public assisting an injured man, close to the Scarisbrick Hotel.
It was reported that, following a verbal altercation, the man had been assaulted by a male and a female who had made off from the scene on foot.
Paramedics attended and the victim was taken to hospital to be treated for a head injury. He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
CCTV, witness and forensic enquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone who witnessed the assault, or with any information is asked to contact police.
Detective Inspector James Halpin said: “This was a nasty assault which left a man injured. Such violence will not be tolerated on our streets and we are working to find the people responsible.
“If you were in the Lord Street area in the early hours of this morning and witnessed the assault then please get in touch. Similarly if you were driving in the area and have dashcam footage, please review it and let us know if you see anything.
“All information, however insignificant it may seem, could be vital to our enquiries. Whether you come forward to us directly or anonymously, through Crimestoppers, please tell us what you know and we will take action.”
