Southport residents are on high alert following a series of overnight thefts from vehicles in several local areas. Merseyside Police has issued a warning and is seeking public assistance in their ongoing investigation.
According to police reports, multiple incidents of car break-ins and attempted thefts have occurred in the areas of Balmoral Drive, Sidney Road, and Preston Road. The force believes that not all incidents have been reported, urging residents to come forward with any information to help build a comprehensive picture of the crime wave.
In an update to their initial statement, police confirmed three additional thefts from cars on Morley Road and another on Preston Road. Authorities suspect there may be more unreported cases in the vicinity.
Merseyside Police is asking residents in the affected areas, particularly around Preston Road, Morley Road, and Rawlinson Road, to review any CCTV, doorbell camera, or dashcam footage from the early hours of Monday, 19th August. They are specifically interested in any suspicious activity around vehicles between 02:00 and 05:00.
The police force has increased overnight patrols in the affected areas but emphasises the importance of community vigilance. Residents are strongly advised to ensure their vehicles are locked and to remove all valuables, including small change and even plastic bags, from sight.
Anyone with information related to these incidents is urged to contact Merseyside Police on their non-emergency number 101. The investigation is ongoing, and police stress that public cooperation is crucial in preventing further crimes and apprehending those responsible.
Residents are reminded to report any suspicious activity immediately and to take extra precautions with their vehicle security in the coming days.
