Police hunt knife wielding maniac after Chapel Street assault

Police are currently hunting for a man who allegedly brandished a knife on a shop worker leaving work for the day.

A police helicopter is circling Southport town centre after reports that a man carrying a large kitchen knife approached a shop worker on Chapel Street this evening.

Police are asking people to stay away from Southport Town Centre.

An update is expected shortly.
