POLICE called after traffic warden assaulted in Southport

5th January 2019

A traffic warden called police after being assaulted in Southport today.

The warden had issued a parking ticket to a car parked outside the William Hill bookmakers on London Street but was confronted by the car’s angry owner.

When the warden refused to take back the ticket he was pushed to the ground and hit his head.

Emergency services were called and police rushed to the scene after a nearby cafe owner called 999.

Two police cars and a paramedic showed up to the street and found the traffic warden being given first aid by a shopkeeper.

The driver of the car was spoken to by police and cautioned and told to pay the parking fine or risk being arrested on the spot.
