A Coastal Road car meet which saw expensive motors paraded along Marine Drive infront of hundreds of spectators has caught the eye of Merseyside Police.
Officers were called to a stretch of the Coastal Road between Southport Links and Ocean Plaza after hundreds of cars were paraded at excess speeds down the busy road.
Hundreds of spectators, photographers and drone pilots were gathered on the sea wall to watch the meet unfold.
While it passed without noticeable incident, police were called after reports of drivers travelling an excessive speeds down the road.
Police arrived at approximately 9.30pm with most cars clearing the area shortly afterwards.
The town’s MP Damien Moore has previously called for police to take stronger action against such meets taking place in Southport.
Speaking in relation to a previous meet in August 2020, Damien Moore said at the time: “These car meet-ups can get lost. First of all, they were speeding and driving dangerously and slamming their handbrakes on as crowds of people watched and filmed them.
“Secondly they were all parked in a pay and display zone but no-one was paying. There was no enforcement at all. I looked at the car windscreens and there were no pay and display tickets on any of them.
“We want to encourage families to come and visit Southport and when they are here we want it to be open and relaxing for them. They shouldn’t be left feeling intimidated. We don’t want these people here discouraging them from doing so or making it unsafe for them to be in the same area. They were all over the car park.”
