Work to repair Southport pier, after it was hit by a lorry two weeks ago, will continue into next week, Sefton Council has confirmed.
The end of Southport Pier, and one lane of the road underneath has been closed since the incident on 7 September.
Sefton Council has said today that the repair is scheduled to be completed, with Marine Drive reopened to traffic next Friday, 1 October.
Temporary scaffolding will be in place to open the road this weekend, with heavy traffic expected for the British Musical Firework Championships.
A spokesperson for Sefton Council said: “Following an inspection on Monday, September 13, repair and restoration works will continue to take place on the underside of Southport Pier.
“This means Marine Drive will remain closed until works are completed. This is to facilitate the erection of scaffolding over the carriageway. While we apologise for any delays these essential works may cause, the safety of our pedestrians and road users remains paramount.”
Scaffolding will be temporarily removed and the site will be safely secured on Friday, September 24th to allow for Marine Drive to accommodate considerably increased traffic volumes for the British Musical Fireworks Championship. Work will resume on Monday, September 27th
