Sean Towndrow won the Lancashire Professional Golfer Association final, held at Royal Lytham Golf Club on Thursday.
He qualified by winning the stroke play round at Bury, shooting 5 under par and then further match-play victories followed including a 5 – 3 win in the semis to set up the 18 hole final.
Sean was one under par after six holes but found himself 3 down after his opponent had four birdies in the first six. But the ex-England and Lancashire Amateur golfer fought back to victory and the match was conceded on the 17th green following a great bunker shot by Sean, on the tough par 4, into the wind.
“It was a tough match.” said Sean afterwards. “I’ve been working hard on posture and set-up and this paid dividends for me today.”
The Southport golfer has been unable to compete in many professional tournaments this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic but is looking forward to 2021 when the Europro Golf Tour is scheduled to recommence.
