A Perveted Southport businessman who abused a young boy has been jailed for three years.

A court heard that Colin Alty had been a boy of 15 himself when he seriously sexually assaulted the 11-year-old victim.

Jailing him Judge Alan Conrad, QC, said that he took into account Alty’s age at the time of his offending behaviour and his immaturity at the time.

“You are otherwise a man of good character and have otherwise led a decent life.”

53-year-old Alty, of The Causeway, Crossens, had been convicted after a trial by a jury of nine offences involving three each of attempted buggery, indecent assault and indecency with a child, all of which he denied.
