Officers on patrol in Southport arrested two men for drugs offences and seized a quantity of cash in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 23 June.
At around 1.40am, police were alerted to a silver Vauxhall Corsa parked up on Nevill Street with two men inside. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers noticed a strong smell of cannabis and conducted a search – seizing suspected Class A drugs, a quantity of cannabis, and a large quantity of money.
A 21-year-old man from Birkdale and a 38-year-old man from Southport were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug.
Both men remain in custody where they will be questioned by detectives.
During a later search of the men’s home addresses, a quantity of cannabis, cash, suspected Class A drugs and drug paraphernalia were also seized.
Inspector Simon Wilson said: “Thankfully due to the quick thinking of our patrols in Southport last night, these harmful drugs have now been prevented from reaching our communities.
“Information from the public plays a vital part in targeting individuals involved in the supply of drugs and serious and organised crime, and I would like to continue to urge our communities to come forward to us, or to Crimestoppers completely anonymously, so that we can take action.”
