WHAT? Ormskirk District General Hospital is holding a family friendly, community Open Day
WHERE? Various locations around the hospital: the restaurant and adjacent outside area, X-ray, maternity clinic area, children’s outpatients, theatre tours, the education centre and the Baby Garden
WHEN? Saturday 7 September 11- 3pm
WHAT’S ON?
Before the main event, the menopause lounge at 10am gives women the chance to speak to our consultant Paula Briggs about any problems they have with symptoms. This will be in the restaurant for one hour. All welcome.
Our annual general meeting will run from 11am-12noon, in the education centre. Again, all are welcome to attend, meet our board and find out more about how the Trust performed over the last 12 months.
If you are a registered nurse looking for a new job, come along to our recruitment event from 12-3pm in the education centre. Conditional job offers made on the day. NHS Professionals will also be there for anyone looking for temporary work. We will also be on hand to talk about careers and apprenticeships.
Visit theatres to see how things have changed over the years, with historical equipment alongside a modern set up and experts on hand to answer questions. Tour X-ray and get teddy’s broken arm checked, before heading to the Children’s outpatients department where toys can get a plaster cast and health check. Face painting, yoga sessions and CPR will be offered by our superhero staff.
Visit the maternity clinics to find out more about home birthing, pool births, hypnobirthing, get help with quitting smoking and even try out maternity yoga.
A musical tea party and cake sale, to explain how music can help dementia sufferers will be in the education centre garden, towards the rear of the hospital.
Other emergency services will be on hand so you can see inside a fire engine, police car and ambulance, and even see how we would deal with a major contamination incident.
At 1pm, a short service will be held to reopen the Baby Garden, thanks to a kind donation from a local family who experienced baby loss. Rosie Cooper, MP for West Lancashire will officially open the garden.
Chief executive Silas Nicholls explains: “We have some really fun plans in place for this open day and hope to see lots of local people there. It is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the services we offer and meet our fantastic teams, from both Ormskirk and Southport hospital.”
