Onlookers describe horror as child ‘thrown into air’ at Food festival

4th June 2023

A child has reportedly been seriously injured after a gust of wind blew them into the air.

The unidentified child was inside an inflatable ball at the time as part of an attraction at the Food & Drink Festival in Victoria Park.

An air ambulance was called and took the child to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

OTS spoke to eye witnesses who described a ‘freak wind from out of nowhere’ picking up the child and the ball, taking them both high into the air.

Sefton Council have confirmed an incident has taken place but wouldn’t comment on what happened.

A spokesperson for Sefton Council said: “We can confirm that an Air Ambulance was called to Victoria Park, Southport this afternoon (Sunday June 4th) following an accident within the grounds.

“First aid responders from St Johns Ambulance reacted quickly to provide assistance to the person involved prior to the arrival of other emergency services.

“Following the incident a full health and safety inspection has been undertaken at the Southport Food & Drink Festival and the event remains open to the public.

“Our thoughts are with those involved in the accident and we wish them a full recovery.”
