Oktoberfest at The Grasshopper
The Grasshopper in Hillside will be transformed into a mini-Bavarian bierhall for their Oktoberfest this weekend.
Bavarian flags and bunting will be in evidence and guests will be seated at long benches and invited to drink out of pint-size steins. The theme is ‘Local beers with Bavarian style’ and local breweries Peerless, 3 Potts, Lancaster and Melwood have created special German style beers for the event.
Andrew the cellar man said “We will serve the beers direct from casks on the bar as they do in Munich. We have got a Bavarian Pilsner, an Altbier, a Weissbier and a Dunkelbier. The girls will be done up in German garb and will serve customers at the tables. Even I am going to be wearing Laderhosen.”
There will be traditional German entertainment starting at 8pm Friday and Saturday nights. Angie the landlady said “We are only a micropub so we have to limit numbers. There are tickets for reserved seats for £6 but that gets you a plateful of Bratwurst and Sauerkraut and a glass of Schapps. The event is sold out for Saturday night but a few tickets remain for Friday night. “
The pub will be open as normal for anybody else who wants to come along and join the fun with some unreserved space available.
The Grasshopper is in Sandon Road close to Hillside Train station and is open from 4pm to 10:30pm for the Oktoberfest.
