The northern end of Marine Drive, between Marshside Road and Preston New Road / Plough Roundabout is to be closed for three months.
Work is set to be undertaken to improve and repair the road surface, primarily to remove the severe undulation caused by its foundations.
The Council have now agreed that the stretch of road will be closed from 25 January 2022 to the completion of the works, scheduled for no later than 14 April 2022.
While the decision has been confirmed by the Council, it is eligible for ‘call-in’, a process where councillors can review the decision.
“Documents published by Sefton Council detail: “Over time, the condition of the road surface has deteriorated, which has affected
its ride quality and the safe discharge of surface water from the carriageway, despite best efforts to try and maintain its structural integrity through routine repairs and the application of preventative type surface treatments which are now considered uneconomical.
“The section of Marine Drive between Hesketh Road and Marshside Road has already been treated and is now proposed to treat the length between Marshside Road and Preston New Road next.
“The section between Fairway and Hesketh Drive is then likely to be programmed for treatment during early 2023.
“The works to be undertaken will involve the reconstruction of both footway and carriageway and the installation of a new and improved drainage system.
“To expedite the works and to carry out operations safely, a road closure needs to be implemented from the 25th January 2022, that will restrict the movement of pedestrians and motor vehicles through working areas for up to 3 months”
