Sefton Council has received planning permission to install new security features along Southport Pier, in line with the requirements of its insurers.
The Council put in the planning application for new CCTV cameras, motion sensors and gates in March this year at the request of its insurance company. The measures were approved this week.
A spokesperson for Sefton Council said: “Southport Pier is currently closed to the public for well-documented health and safety purposes as our first and foremost priority is ensuring we keep everybody safe.
“While we await the results of an independent specialist survey into the current condition of the Pier and the work required to get it back open, our teams are working extremely hard in the background to ensure we can get works underway as soon as possible.”
Further updates on Southport Pier will be announced in due course.
