New Merseyrail trains being tested on Southport line

Merseyrail’s new rolling stock is being tested on the Southport to Hunts Cross line ahead of their full introduction.

Merseyrail have purchased 52 777 class trains which are due to enter operation this year. The option exists to purchase an additional 60 units if the size of the local rail network is extended.

A full rollout date has not yet been confirmed.

The new stock is being tested when the Southport to Hunts Cross line reverts to 30 minute trains after peak hours.
