New Directions SOUTHPORT North Hub Music Fundraiser Hits Right Note
A Southport centre for Sefton residents with a range of support needs hit the right note with a fancy dress evening to raise funds for a new music system this week.
There was an excellent turnout for the event at the North Hub on Mornington Road in the town centre which is run by Sefton’s leading adult social care provider, New Directions.
Staff and service users warmed to the theme of 60s, 70s and 80s fashions with a variety of eye-catching costumes on view, with prizes being awarded for the best of them.
Guests took part in a bingo session and a raffle in a bid to cover the cost of a new state-of-the-art sound system for use in future activities at the centre.
And there was also a disco featuring hot hits from the three decades, as well as a special live performance of favourite songs from the musical Grease by students from nearby Southport College.
Organiser Jackie Ross commented: “Our aim was to make this a really fun event and it proved to be really successful – I’ve received lots of positive feedback from people who attended.
“I’d like to thank all the local businesses who donated prizes for their generosity. Their response to our requests was excellent and really helped our fundraising efforts.
“And last but not least I’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to my niece Jess Rushby and her friends Harriet Middleton, Libbie Cowburn and Ellis Halton for their brilliant performances of the hits from Grease,” added Jackie.
Prizes were donated by The Office on Hoghton Street, Mimi and Lotti’s Coffee House on Hoghton Street, Cocoa House on Lord Street, Mezzanine bistro bar on Lord Street, Shannon Rigby at Redheads and Roses beauty salon on Hesketh Drive, the Crown Hotel in Birkdale and trade union Unison.
The list of generous donors is completed by Honeyzz hair salon on Bold Street, Fusion Hair and Beauty on Tithebarn Road with Julia Abram, Southport College Hair Salon, Concetta@Peaches salon on Botanic Road, Kokomo Coffee and Wine Bar on Bold Street, Asda Southport and Charlie Ross at regional private equity firm Livingbridge.
