Spicy chicken lovers in Southport are faced with empty bellies after Nando’s announced a huge chicken shortage has hit its Ocean Plaza restaurant.
Southport’s Nando’s restaurant claimed this morning it will only be open for eating in and collection takeaways, all though as the day has progressed, the spicy chicken shortage appears to have also taken the restaurant’s collection service down too.
Disheartened customers who called the restaurant to book a table were told they had ‘very little’ boned chicken left and no wings at all.
However, chicken breast and burgers were still available, although potential diners are asked to check with staff on arrival to avoid any disappointment.
The restaurant group has had to shut around 50 outlets temporarily, with hundreds of others including Southport drastically affected, after apparently running short of peri-peri chicken.
The closures, Nandos say, have been caused by staffing shortages at production plants combined with a national HGV driver shortage.
The chain said delivery schedules meant the situation was changing rapidly and suggested customers check the website before they visit.
Food and other supply chains across the UK have struggled to operate normally this summer, due to what has been dubbed the “pingdemic” – staff being required to self-isolate if they have come into contact with someone with coronavirus.
