Southport MP Damien Moore took part in a second secret election last spring of which 99.99 per cent of local voters in Southport were kept completely in the dark. For over two weeks in April of last Year, Mr Moore was seeking election at the same time in both Southport and in West Preston where he was also the Conservative candidate for Lancashire County Council.
Had Mr Moore been successful in the county election on May 4th 2017, he would have represented a very large chunk of Preston as his £10,500 County Council seat was right next door to his existing Preston City Council ward of Greyfriars where he is was paid £5,400 last year as deputy leader of the city council’s Conservative group. As it happens, Asda manager Mr Moore was narrowly beaten in the County Council seat by Liberal Democrat John Potter, leaving him free to concentrate purely on his Southport campaign over the following month.
