FORMBY MP Bill Esterson put staff terms and conditions at the top of the menu when he visited the new McDonald’s restaurant in Formby.
The Sefton Central MP quizzed franchisee Mark Blundell – opening his 11th branch of the fast food chain in the Merseyside area – on the 100 jobs that have been created.
The drive through restaurant opened its doors on 17 April and held a ‘Friends & Family’ event two days earlier, inviting residents who live nearby, staff who will be working at the store and their families.
The MP said: “It was great to meet Mark and his team at the new Formby Mcdonald’s. It looks great inside with plenty of activities put on for kids including face painting and crafts which will be offered at weekends.
“One of my first questions was what terms and conditions the staff are employed on. We want decent employers in this constituency offering fair contracts and wages. I was pleased to hear that all staff were offered fixed hours contracts and will be able to move onto fixed contracts whenever they choose.
“A total of 100 jobs have been created which can only be a positive.
“Residents have raised concerns about litter and the safety of the junction where pedestrians will cross to get to the restaurant.
“Thanks to campaigning by Labour councillors Nina Killen and Catie Page there will soon be a new pelican crossing installed at the junction between Tesco and McDonald’s. This will make it much safer to cross.
“On litter, the store will employ staff to pick litter up and down the bypass in the vicinity of the store and in the streets in front and behind.”
Mark Blundell, McDonald’s franchisee, said: “I’d like to thank Bill and Nina for coming along to meet the team and see our fantastic new restaurant. We’re very happy to be opening in Formby and look forward to being part of the community here.”
