Damien Moore MP visits Southport College to see specialist training facilities that are available to students
Following his recent visit to an Apprenticeship Guidance Event Damien Moore MP returned to Southport College to see for himself the specialist training provided for full time students and apprentices.
Accompanied by Ronnie Fell, Chair of Corporation, Mr Moore toured the gas, plumbing, electrical and engineering facilities, meeting two Southport Apprentices Ella Harper and Jack Eckersley who both work for Lattimer, a successful local engineering company. He also visited the College’s University Centre where he spoke with adult students. The students were able to relay their support for the framework that is in place to help them through their studies at the college and the pathway to future employment.
Commenting, Damien Moore MP said:
‘I was delighted to be invited back to the College to witness the high level of training and education available to local young people and adults. I was able to assure the College that the Government places a very high importance on further education and sees the work of colleges as essential to the future prosperity of the country.’
‘I will shortly be inviting senior colleagues from the Treasury to visit Southport College to see for themselves the excellent work that is being done and appreciate more fully the support and resources needed going forward.’
Commenting, John Clarke Principal of the College said:
‘We thank Damien for the interest he has shown in post- 16 education and for taking the time to speak to students and staff. He recognises the importance of the College to Southport and fully understands our need to continue to invest in high quality resources and facilities.’
