MP helps Southport charity secure rate relief Sefton MBC
Southport MP Damien Moore has helped secure Southport based charity, Home-Start, a rate relief worth thousands of pounds from Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council.
Home-Start, who provide much-needed support and befriending services to families with at least one child under the age of five, had been struggling to cope with business rates and had not heard from Sefton MBC following an application for Hardship Relief for 2017-18.
The relief is expected to be in the region of £2,100.00.
The Member of Parliament intervened following a visit to Home-Start’s headquarters in the summer following reports that the council had failed to come to a decision on the charities application.
Annie Ives, Home-Start’s Manager said: “Thanks to Damien’s support we are now receiving the business rate relief. It makes an amazing difference to our charity as funding is critical to our success. After all, we are helping Sefton families and providing a much needed early help service to families that prevents costly intervention from the council’s children’s services.”
Speaking on the success, Damien Moore MP commented:
“This is great news and I’m delighted the charity have now finally heard from Sefton Council.”
“Annie contacted me following our productive meeting in the summer to tell me their application hadn’t been responded to and that the relief funding was essential in ensuring families continued to receive a high level support in Southport.”
“I was more than happy to assist Home-Start and would encourage other charities in a similar positon to contact me if they’re experiencing the same problem with the council.”
