Mother says Semina Halliwell took own life after interview with police in family living room

Semina Halliwell took her own life directly after an interview at home with a police officer, her distraught mum has claimed.

12-year-old Semina Halliwell took her own life in June of last year after she was reportedly “discouraged from making a criminal complaint” about allegations of being raped.

Now in an interview with Sky News, Semina’s mum says she lays blame on the police after an interview that took place in the family’s living room.

She says an officer discouraged Semina from making a criminal complaint after being raped – which she alleges started the fateful course of events that saw much loved Semina take her own life.

Semina’s family have alleged that she was raped and bullied in the build-up to her death, with videos of Semina being assaulted posted and distributed on Snapchat.

In the interview, Semina’s mother Rachel claimed that Merseyside Police failed to investigate “a campaign of online and offline bullying and witness intimidation, including several violent assaults, that the family believe were committed by associates of the alleged perpetrator”

“They said anyone going to the police are going to go get their heads kicked in. And that’s exactly what happened. Semina was beaten up three times, videoed, her [sibling] was beaten up in school,”

“Even though there were videos of [Semina] being beaten up on social media, the police did nothing about it. The officer, the detective, said ‘Well, things have quietened down now, so if I go around it might kick off all over again’,” Rachel said.

Semina’s family also claim that they were sent edited videos and footage of Semina’s body decomposing, and an offer from an anonymous account to pay £10,000 to vandalise Semina’s grave. The grave was vandalised within the next few weeks.

Rachel also disclosed that she herself was convicted of an assault that took place shortly after Semina named the alleged perpetrator.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said it was “not appropriate to comment on any of the substantive issues raised at this time, as we would not wish to prejudice the coronial investigation”.

“However, we have, and are, co-operating fully with the coroner in this matter,”
