Ambulance and hospital staff enjoyed an afternoon tea yesterday in honour of the NHS’ 73rd birthday following a donation from Morrisons.
The afternoon tea was presented on behalf of Morrisons by Southport Community Champion Anna Ingram.
Morrisons said: “Yesterday marked the NHS 73rd Anniversary and over the weekend was #NationalThankYouDay so what better excuse than thank all our hardworking staff at Southport And Formby District General Hospital NHS and Southport Ambulance Station than providing a few cakes, drinks and sandwiches.”
A small donation was also made to Dale Park Care Home for their residents to enjoy.
Morrisons has been supporting the NHS Charities Together Big Tea event, to nationally say thank you to NHS staff for their service through the coronavirus pandemic.
The 73rd birthday of the NHS celebrated yesterday saw the Queen award the service the George Cross, the UK’s highest award for gallantry, praising the “courage, compassion and dedication” of NHS from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Damien Moore MP said: “For seventy-three years the National Health Service has served our nation. For seventy-three years it has shown great endurance and resolve. With this pandemic, we have come to rely on it now more than ever. My sincere thanks to everyone working in our NHS.”
Fiona Taylor, chief officer at NHS South Sefton CCG) and NHS Southport and Formby CCG, said: “It has been an extremely challenging year for the NHS in Sefton and across the country, but it has also been one of hope. While caring for around 400,000 seriously ill COVID-19 patients, the NHS has rolled out the biggest vaccination programme in our history.”
“We could not have played our part in these achievements without the skill and dedication of our staff, volunteers, keyworkers and you, the public, who are supporting our efforts by following social distancing rules and turning up to get vaccinated.”
