A lockdown impacting the entire Merseyside region is extensively expected to be announced tomorrow.
Health experts indicated that firms should not be surprised if restrictive measures like those planned for the North East are brought in.
Matt Hancock announced today new limitations for the North East, which are:
Residents must not socialise with other people outside of their own households or support bubble in private homes and gardens.
Hospitality for food and drink will be restricted to table service only.
Late night restriction of operating hours will be introduced, with leisure and entertainment venues required to close between 10pm to 5am.
Numbers of coronavirus cases across parts of Merseyside and the North West in reality have been higher than those in the North East.
New rules may relate to households being unable to mingle and hospitality venues closing their doors earlier in the evening. Additional measures may also be announced to protect vulnerable individuals in care homes, as well as restrictions on sporting and cultural occasions.
