After enquiries from Ainsdale Lib Dem Councillor Haydn Preece, regarding the OTS story.

Merseyrail have released the following statement:

“We are undertaking a significant project at Ainsdale station with the aim of improving the experience of our customers that use this vital transport link for work and leisure. The work is significant, touching on all areas of the station including the booking office, concourses and car park.

This work is and always has been due to be completed in Spring 2018 and currently on schedule, with key elements such as the passenger bridge between platforms already being completed.

“Shortly, work will commence to extend and refurbish both platforms to ensure that the station is ready for our new fleet of trains which are due on our network in 2020.

I can also assure you that, whilst the station will be relatively unique due to the inclusion of the community police office within the station building, this will not impact upon the spaces available in the car-park and will certainly not involve the removal of existing parking spaces.

“This work has been undertaken with the support of the local community following two full consultations with local residents and key stakeholders in 2015 and 2017.”
