Network rail engineers are taking advantage of a region wide strike to carry out repairs on a train bridge.
Industrial traffic around the Crowland Street area of Southport is movingly slowly after Network Rail closed off part of the road near Butts Lane Railway bridge today.
The planned works coincidentally coincide with a rail union strike, meaning engineers can carry out work on the deteriorated bridge without disruption.
Both the road and footpath have been closed off to allow engineers to carry out repairs to the bridge, with temporary traffic lights being set up.
The works should be completed by 6pm, engineers told OTS News today.
Northern Rail said this week that strike action by RMT members will significantly affect services today and possibly tomorrow (Thursday 28th) with most lines closed with no train services or alternatives.
