The mega wind turbine plan which caused uproar when it was publicly teased last year may now be scrapped.
The huge 100-metre-tall wind turbine, taller than The Statue of Liberty and Big Ben, had been floated as possibly being built on the Southport seafront.
A pre-planning application from Edibnurgh-based Locogen Consulting sought advice from Sefton Council earlier this year on a plan to build the mammoth structure next to the Eco Centre,
When plans were made public the overwhelming reaction from the public was negative as they quickly picked apart the proposals, saying it would become a huge eyesore in the town.
The project is intended to replace the existing but defunct wind turbine at the Southport Eco Centre.
However those behind the project tell OTS News they are now aware of the recent announcement of the Cove Resort securing a land agreement with Sefton Council.
The land in question would clash with where the turbine was due to be located.
OTS contacted both the team behind the turbine and Sefton Council for clarification on this story.
Sefton Council did not directly acknowledge the query however a spokesperson told us: “In securing best value from all of our assets we always consider environmental and social outcomes, as well as the economic and the financial.
“That includes the case of this site, and we welcome continued discussions with current and prospective partners about shared objectives in relation to the environment and the economy as this work progresses over the next few months.”
